Research
Folate is a vitamin that has an essential role in many key metabolic processes, such as nucleotide synthesis. In addition to its roles in normal cell biology, physiology, and development, folate is a targeted vulnerability in cancer cells. However, very little is known about the mechanisms of folate homeostasis in normal cells and survival mechanisms in cancer cells. The Kanarek lab seeks to increase their understanding of folate metabolism and improve the anti-cancer effects of current folate targeting chemotherapies.

Why LCBC
Adam decided to get involved in the Landry Cancer Biology Consortium both to learn more about the cancer research in the Harvard community, as well as to help promote and build a community of cancer researchers.

Role in LCBC
Adam work with several of his peers to organize events in the Longwood Medical Area with the goal of fostering a cohesive community of cancer researchers. One example is the monthly Student Data Club. This event brings together graduate students across Harvard schools and provides an opportunity to share scientific findings in a supportive, student-only audience. Adam is also a 2019 Landry Fellow
