Mentoring lunch with Kivanc Birsoy

Date and Time

January 31, 2023
12:00PM - 01:00PM EST

We’re kicking off Spring 2023 mentoring lunches with the DFCI Seminars in Oncology speaker Dr Kivanc Birsoy, Rockefeller University. These lunches are excellent opportunities for students to network with visiting faculty and learn about cancer research being done at other institutions, in an informal setting. More info on Dr. Birsoy’s research can be found here (https://birsoylab.rockefeller.edu/)  and below.

FRIENDLY REMINDER
All onsite visitors are required to have the COVID vaccination and booster at Dana-Farber and are required to wear a hospital-issued mask when in public facing areas. Select visitor/essential visitor and answer the questions.

Dr. Birsoy is an associate professor and the head of Laboratory of Metabolic Regulation and Genetics at Rockefeller University. He received his Ph.D. from the Rockefeller University in 2009, where he studied molecular genetics of obesity in the laboratory of Jeffrey Friedman. In 2010, he joined the laboratory of David Sabatini at the Whitehead Institute. There, he combined forward genetics and metabolomics approaches to understand how different cancer types rewire their metabolism to adapt nutrient deprived environments and how mitochondrial dysfunction influences cellular metabolism. The long term research goal of Birsoy lab is to understand how metabolic pathways in mammalian cells are rewired by their nutrient environment and, further, to determine whether these pathways present metabolic liabilities that could be exploited for disease therapy.
