Alanis Carmona

Alanis grew up in Chicago and graduated from Bates college in 2018 with a degree in Biochemistry, minor in Chinese, and a concentration in Public Health. After graduating, she went off to be a research technician at The University of Chicago from 2018-2022 in the lab of Dr. Ronald Cohen in the department of Endocrinology. There, she investigated the adipocyte microenvironment and its implication in diseases like obesity and diabetes. Her work with The University of Chicago inspired her to continue research in metabolic illness and pursue a PhD in the Biological Sciences in Public Health (BPH) program. She joined the laboratory of Dr. Jessalyn Ubellacker in the Department of Molecular Metabolism at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she focuses on understanding the influence of the lymph node tumor microenvironment on breast cancer metastasis. Additionally, she is investigating metabolomic and lipidomic biomarkers in lymph nodes as potential prognostic indicators of breast cancer progression.
