Madelaine (Elaine) Theardy grew up in Jakarta, Indonesia and received her bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine from the Indonesia International Institute for Life Sciences (i3L). Drawn to the complexity of cancer biology, she joined the laboratory of Dr. Takaomi Sanda at the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore (CSI-NUS) as a Research Assistant, where she utilized transgenic zebrafish models to dissect how the transcription factor IRF4 drives clonal evolution and lineage choice in T-cell lymphoma. She later pursued her master’s studies at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center under the mentorship of Dr. Wantong Yao, investigating the YAP1-SDC1 axis as a key driver of resistance to KRAS-targeted therapies in gastrointestinal cancers. In 2024, Elaine began her PhD training at Harvard Medical School and joined the laboratory of Dr. Vijay Sankaran at Boston Children’s Hospital. In the Sankaran lab, she is focused on harnessing inherited genetic variation to uncover novel mechanisms governing clonal hematopoiesis and hematological malignancies.
