Shadwa Bayoumi
Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Kimberly Stegmaier Lab
Shadwa grew up in North Carolina and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. As an undergraduate, she studied an actin–microtubule crosslinker in Drosophila, sparking her interest in the molecular mechanisms underlying disease. After graduation, she joined the Sellers’ lab at the Broad Institute, where she worked to develop methods for systematically identifying druggable pockets in proteins traditionally considered “undruggable.” Building on these experiences, Shadwa is now pursuing a PhD in the Stegmaier lab at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she combines genomic and chemical biology approaches to develop new therapeutic strategies for fusion-driven pediatric cancers.
